EXHIBITION . ÁLVARO SIZA - SKETCHES AT DINNER
Most of my drawings have a precise aim: to find the Form which responds to Function, and from is set free – and from effort – opening itself to a destiny unknown.
Simultaneously or not, “alongside”, emerges another drawing.
A drawing of pleasure, of absence, of repose, crosses over the other, as there is nothing from which we may be entirely removed.
Both may appear on the same page, seemingly strange, voluntarily or involuntarily related to one another.
A meticulously detailed portrait or accidental line can illuminate in a brief instant the patient search, traversing passages of memory, without apparent call or conscience of the fact.
Drawing is design, desire, transcendence, register and form of communication, doubt and discovery, reflex and creation, restrained gesture and utopia.
Drawing is unconscious search and precise science, the revelation of that which is hidden from the artist, nor revealed by him, of that which is explained in another time.
Free, the other drawing is a guide to the conscious drawing.
